Micro Blog: 9th November 2010 (NPSS)

Has it really been 2 months since I last typed in this Micro Blog? I have been spending too much time in front of the computer but sadly, it was not for the website. Work has piled up to a point that I am still processing files from another trip up north in early October.

Other than work, it is important for me to contribute to the photographic community in Singapore and a couple of talks were on the list (7 in 2 months). A talk on Ethics in Nature Photography at the inaugural OneAsia Festival was the first and perhaps one of the tougher talks I ever had to give. It was one that was purely based on my opinion and if time was not tight, I was very sure a debate would have been possible. That said, I have to thank the many people who attended the talk as I thought it would be one of the topics that nature photographers would want to avoid as much as possible. It was one that brought our conscience to the surface and have us face the truth of whether we are really being ehtical towards not just our subjects but to the environment.

The festival itself was packed with exhibition booths and I was glad that a good number of experienced photographers from Nature Photographic Society, Singapore, NPS(S) was down to help guide the visitors around the booth. It was not a big booth but it was certainly packed with nicely mounted images that were superbly printed.

NPS(S) has been a core reason why I am pretty much a competent nature photographer (I would like to think so!). The advice I had during the early days has stayed true and I have shared them as much as I could with the photographic community. This is a NGO where I have felt as ease due to the selfless spirit we all have and the fact that going commercial has always not been a priority brings us all much closer. A couple of days ago, the society celebrated its 10th Anniversary and I was proud to share moments from the past with the exisiting members. It was a talk that brought back many memories and slides that I never took a second look were scanned and presented to the audience.
