Micro Blog: 20th May 2010 (Horse Racing)

The 2 arduous weeks have finally passed. Sitting at the airport cargo area at 3 in the morning, soaking my shoes in the rain and a daily buffet breakfast...Ahhh...it's the last item that is the morale booster and keeps me going through the hours of getting the horses arriving from their faraway homes and shooting them at trackwork on the racecourse. It's the Singapore International Airline Cup and Krisflyer Sprint 2010. The yearly event that packs the stands to full capacity and also one where I see foreign photographers with formal wear in Singapore's horrifying weather.
Other than the breakfast, the gorgeous sunrise every morning was refreshing and I got the longest lens I could muster, an 800mm to maximise the size of the sun in the frame. The slightly dusty sky meant exposure was not that bad an issue and the big red star was not that big an exposure challlenge as other days.
The big day arrived and the grounds were packed and yes, the drizzle was constant and did not let us off. One D3 died due to the constant exposure to the moisture but it dried up and was ok. Singapore's hopeful in Rocket Man came in second once again and it was disappointing for all his supporters and that included me.
It was still a great night and I'm going to be planning for better stuff next year and pray that the rain does not come by.
